College Football Recruiting Database Tools Compared (2026)

An honest comparison of college football recruiting databases and tools for families. SCOUT vs NCSA vs Recruiting Master List vs doing it yourself.

March 21, 20266 min readTrenton Luera

If you're a parent trying to figure out which recruiting tool is worth your money, this is the honest breakdown.

I built SCOUT because I went through this process myself.

I was a backup QB who got benched on homecoming.

Still ended up with 15+ offers and a $70k scholarship.

The difference was outreach.

Not talent. Not camps. Not rankings.

Direct contact with coaches who didn't know I existed.

That's what these tools are supposed to help with.

Here's how they actually compare.

SCOUT

SCOUT is a self-service database of college football coaches and their contact info.

What you get:

  • 11,700+ active football coaches across 899 programs
  • Direct email addresses for 91% of coaches
  • Phone numbers, Twitter/X handles
  • Every division: FBS, FCS, D2, D3, NAIA, JUCO
  • Recruiting questionnaire links for 843 schools
  • Filter by state, division, conference
  • Updated weekly by automated scrapers

Price: $29/month or $200 for lifetime access.

SCOUT is built for families who want to do the outreach themselves.

No middleman. No consultant. No $2,000 package.

Just the contact info you need to reach coaches directly.

NCSA (Next College Student Athlete)

NCSA is the biggest name in recruiting services.

They pair you with a recruiting advisor and build your profile.

What you get:

  • Recruiting advisor (phone calls, strategy)
  • Online profile with highlights
  • School matching
  • Multi-sport (not football-specific)

Price: $500 to $3,000+ depending on the package.

NCSA is a good service if you want someone to hold your hand through the process.

The downside is the price and the fact that thousands of other athletes are on the same platform sending the same type of outreach.

Recruiting Master List

A spreadsheet-style list of college football coaches and emails.

What you get:

  • FBS and FCS coach contact info
  • Downloadable spreadsheet
  • Daily updates

Price: Subscription-based.

This was one of the first products in the space.

It covers FBS and FCS well but doesn't go as deep into D2, D3, NAIA, and JUCO.

If your kid is a borderline D1 prospect, that's a gap.

Get Recruited Consulting

A consulting service run by former college coaches.

What you get:

  • Evaluation by former coaches
  • Recruiting strategy
  • School list recommendations

Price: Varies (consulting model).

Good if you want a professional evaluation.

The trade-off is you're paying for someone's time and opinion, not a tool you can use on your own schedule.

Doing It Yourself (Free)

You can absolutely do this for free.

Google every school's athletics page.

Find the staff directory.

Copy emails one by one.

What you get:

  • Free
  • Full control

The problem: it takes forever.

There are 899 football programs in the country.

Most have 10-15 coaches.

Finding emails, verifying they're current, tracking who you've contacted - that's hundreds of hours of work.

Most families who try this burn out after 20-30 schools.

The Bottom Line

If you want a consultant to manage the process: NCSA or Get Recruited Consulting.

If you want to do it yourself with the right data: SCOUT gives you every coach's contact info across every division for $29/month.

If you want a spreadsheet of FBS/FCS contacts: Recruiting Master List.

If you have unlimited time and patience: do it yourself for free.

The families who get the most offers are the ones who contact the most coaches.

Not the most talented athletes.

The ones who actually reach out.

Whatever tool you pick, the outreach is what matters.
